An Introduction (Updated, 8/9/21)
This is a narrative project, a sort of "alternate history" through the lens of the NFL. I am weary to call this a novel as I don't think anybody would want to read all of this collected together as a book; more importantly, honestly, I don't think anybody would pay me to write this as a novel. There was a tweet from March that got circulated and lightly mocked, by someone I don't even remember, who more or less noted to everybody that Shakespeare wrote King Lear while in quarantine from a plague. The spirit of this came from optimism or encouragement, but like all those sort of things it grated on everyone--me included, but only after I thought about it longer than I should. For those lucky enough, maybe we need projects. This all came out of distraction starting in May, when I played a hack of Tecmo Super Bowl using the 1985 season schedule and rosters--as a kid obsessed with sports, particularly football, that season seems so strange; and, if, one wanted to c
